1. Commit to a routine
Set a standard time to wake up, start work, and end work. A routine will help you balance your work and personal life. It will also help when you return to work.
2. Get dressed
I feel so much better when I get dressed and put on makeup. Do not keep on your pajamas all day! Change to comfortable clothes. Getting dressed will help set the “mood” for work. If dressing up in a full suit works for you, then go for it!!!
3. Take breaks
It is essential to take quick breaks from the computer screen. At the top of the hour, take a quick walk around your house. Go to the restroom that is the farthest from you. When its time for lunch, eat at a different location in the house. I have a home office, and I go to the kitchen for lunch.
4. Video Conference or Facetime
Video conference or Facetime with your colleagues, even if an audio call is all that is required. Videos will give you a little of that social life you may be missing from work. But make sure you show up for the video conference just like you would if you were in the office:
Dress appropriately for your job…even for a video conference
Be prepared for the video call
5. Adjust regular routines after work
After work, try to have as much of your routine as possible, although you will have to adjust.
Cook dinner
Walk around your neighborhood (follow the CDC guidelines)
Socialize with family and friends. If you don’t have family and friends that live with you, use apps such as Zoom, Facetime, or Whatsapp to video chat with them. Setup a virtual wine and cheese party.
I hope these tips help elevate your work from home experience!
